I got the chance to talk to some fellow pest control operators during lunch time today.

The conversation was about pest control here in the local Broken Arrow, Jenks, Bixby and Tulsa area. The gentleman I was speaking with worked for a large national pest control company that everybody has heard of. He recently made a switch to a smaller company due to the pressure and demands placed on him to finish each pest control job as fast as he could. The gentleman stated that working for the large national company was tough because they were required to do a route consisting of anywhere from 12-14 accounts per day as well as knock doors and prospect for additional customers while on route. The biggest problem with this was the route was in all areas of Tulsa, Bixby, Jenks and Broken Arrow. While making a stop the other day I had the privilege of parking next to one of our major competitors in the local Broken Arrow, Bixby, Jenks and Tulsa Pest Control area. We discussed pests of course and the huge volume of Black Widow Spider calls everybody was getting. Other topics discussed were Treatment Methods, Termites, Pest Control Products and Services. One subject that concerned me was the discussion of how they "The Other Company" do follow-up pest control treatments versus how EnviroTech Exterminating does follow-up pest control.

I was shocked when I heard this so I did some investigating. After checking the local market I found that a vast majority of pest control companies in Broken Arrow and the Jenks, Bixby, Tulsa area only do exterior pest control treatments on their contracted customers. They only treat inside if requested. Not only are you locked into a contract with these companies but they only do 1/3 rd of a pest control treatment.

Another topic discussed was products used and mix ratio's. What I found was that this other company dilutes their chemical product double that of the minimum required dilution ratio on the pesticides label for their pest control product being used. They also use an inferior product or low cost product boosting profits and lowering expenses. This is providing their customers with a lower quality pest control treatment. Moving on with our conversation the other pest control company stated that every spring they hire Door Knockers... People to go solicit their pest control business. I asked them why they needed to do this and the answer was they loose on average 200 customers per year and need to gain 200 new customers per year.
