Today I got the opportunity to show just how amazing termites really are. To show how they forage, build tubes, tunnels and work. It's quite amazing how these little insects can be so destructive.

 

       While doing a termite treatment in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma today the customer removed panels from a bathroom tub where a termite swarm recently occurred. While looking the tub over and examining the underneath supports, structure of it, you could see the termite tubes running from the exterior wall along a 2x4 framing board for the tubs support. The termite tube then turned up and along another 2x4 and went the the top of the structure where it then met with a piece of plywood. The termites had eaten away at some of the mid section of the plywood. The termites then moved on and down the other side of the 2x4 down between the outside panel and 2x4 to where it met up with the shower. There was moisture present in this area and reproductive termites were found pouring out of the lower panel that met with the supporting 2x4's that termite tubes were on.

We provided a Termidor SC Perimeter Treatment to the home and used Termidor Foam in the framing area of the bathroom tub to gain control of the termites as quickly as possible while still allowing the termites time to take the product back with them to the colony.

So what if termite evidence is found during the inspection? A treatment will be called for and once completed another report called an ODAFF-2 will be issued. If termite damage, activity or evidence is found a proper termite treatment quote will be provided.

How long is a ODAFF-1 report good for? 90 days from the date of the inspection is traditionally the time period. The report is good for the purchase of the home inspected.

Is the ODAFF-1 report a warranty? NO, the ODAFF-1 is a report declaring that at the time of inspection no visual evidence of activity was present. It does not mean hidden damage is not present. The inspector does not tear into walls or take apart sections to detect termites. No inspection is 100% fail proof when it comes to termites.

Termites start with a very small colony and can take years to reach detection. Once the first signs of Termites is present usually the colony has grown to thousands if not a hundred thousand or more Termites.

 What can be done if Termite activity is found? A Termite Treatment is the only way to protect a home from termites. We offer treatment for any size, type of home.

Fall brings out the huge mature spiders with their webs, visible only when the dew settles on them (quite beautiful for the photographer), or when unsuspecting you walks through one (quite funny for the videographer). The harvest in Canadian fields chases the mice indoors, which, upon discovery, become wonderful fodder for YouTube. More recently, lady bug lookalikes with many names (asian beetles, Japanese beetles, harlequin ladybirds) have infested homes in falls months as their population preps for winter.

 This week has been filled with needs for pest control. All the rain we have received has got pests, bugs and so forth really moving around.
